SrrTrains – outlook
Posted by christoph on July 4, 2009
Hi all
The step 0020 of my hobby project has been finished, so the current status of the project looks like
0010 – basics – done
0020 – tracks and turnouts – done
0030 – locomotives – in autumn 2009
0040 – diverse topics (wagons, trains) – around Christmas
0050 – high level editor (Blender scripts) – somewhen in 2010
The X3D prototypes have been published on a web space (in version “step 0020″, of course), the interface description is online available (SRR Framework and “ABI” Track Geometry).
If you would like to start building model railroad layouts by using SRR, you could find a short introduction here.

While considering the topic, whether I should cancel this hobby project or I should continue, I tried to summarize the main differences to already existing, well-known railway simulations.
I think, the main differences could be listed as follows.
As far as I know, SrrTrains is the first concept, that
includes the multiplayer-concept from the beginning
is heavily based on standards (X3D/VRML) and open source (Blender, X3D-Edit)
is an online concept: nothing has to be installed on the local machine but a Web3D Browser
I would be happy about a fruitful discussion.
